The lure of the great outdoors beckons in Palm Desert, including when it comes to dining. Patios and decks abound, offering year-round al fresco options to diners who appreciate both a relaxed atmosphere and expansive vistas.

There’s a new player in the outdoor dining realm with the opening of Lupine Plaza, a new dining destination adjacent to El Paseo – Palm Desert’s famed restaurant and retail district.

Lupine Plaza capitalizes on its ideal location and the closure of a one-block section of an underutilized street – Lupine Lane – to provide a safe and sweet new space to enjoy outdoor dining.

Diners are encouraged to order take out food from one of dozens of area restaurants, and then find a seat under an umbrella at one of Lupine Plaza’s many tables. Come evening, drinks are even available from a restaurant pop-up bar inside the Plaza.

Shaded outdoor seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Whether you want to enjoy a coffee at sunrise or an after-dinner drink beneath the Plaza’s canopy of string lights, you’re welcome to make yourself at home at Lupine Plaza.

The outdoor dining options don’t end at Lupine Plaza, however. Several Palm Desert restaurants have availed themselves of the City of Palm Desert’s business-friendly position allowing them to expand their seating into public spaces adjacent to their locations. New dining decks have been bumped out into the street at many of these restaurants, while others have added tables on City sidewalks.

Enjoying these new outdoor dining experiences also helps support Palm Desert’s local restaurateurs. For a complete list of restaurants open for outdoor dining, take out food, or both, visit the Palm Desert Dining Guide.
