October is National Pizza Month which gives us 31 days to explore the world of pizza and all the flavors it offers. As if we needed any excuse to celebrate and indulge in the delectable, mouthwatering, satisfying meal that is pizza.

This month-long celebration began in October 1984 and was created by the publisher of Pizza Today magazine and pizzeria owner, Gerry Durnell. Congress then chose to make it official back in 1987. He chose October because it’s the month the first issue of his magazine debuted. He lived in a small town called Santa Claus, Indiana, and realized there was nothing to support his growing pizza business, or the pizza industry in general. Since he created a pizza-themed magazine, as well as started an official month to celebrate this wonderful food, we thank him from the bottom of our stomachs!

Now that your stomach is full of gratitude, let’s celebrate this amazing month by stuffing it with pizza! Palm Desert has no shortage on amazing pizza places and pizzerias. Whether you’re looking to get a traditional Italian style pizza, a Chicago deep-dish pizza, or looking to get one with some cauliflower crust, Palm Desert has your stomach’s best interest at heart!

Mario’s Italian Cafe started as a small restaurant in Brooklyn became the start of a three-generation long story of restaurateurs; and with every generation, the food gets better. They are called an Italian Café because they serve a wide array of Italian food, but their pizza does not fall behind the other places I have mentioned. Stop by for a slice or an entire pie and for our wine enthusiasts, pair the pie with the Valley’s largest glass of wine for $5.

Consistently voted “Best Pizza in the Coachella Valley”, Papa Dan’s stands among the other pizzerias as the bar to compare to.
