Grow, an intriguing new dance performance featuring 10 members of the critically acclaimed contemporary dance company, Backhausdance, and 30 local high school students, will take place at The Gardens on El Paseo on Sunday, March 6 at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The performance captures the unique possibilities offered by The Gardens on El Paseo to create a dynamic movement experience. The dance happens in multiple places, lasts about 30 minutes, and can be viewed from all sides of the Center Lawn, including the second level. The audience can expect fluid boundaries between dancers and visitors—those who come specifically to watch and those who might discover it unfolding as they come to shop, dine or enjoy the outdoor mall.
Grow is the result of this year’s East Valley Dance Project, an outreach project of the Palm Desert Choreography Festival at the McCallum Theatre. The project, now celebrating 15 years, provides students at Desert Mirage and Coachella Valley high schools with powerful opportunities to experience and explore the art form of dance, develop life skills, and engage in partnerships with McCallum Theatre Education and Backhausdance.
Performances of Grow are free to the public and promise to captivate young and old. For additional information, contact McCallum Education Program Manager Joanna Fookes at jfookes@mccallum-theatre.org or call 760-776-6195.
