Following a respite of nearly two years during the pandemic, the much anticipated opening concert of the Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic will take place on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 7:30 pm at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert with a performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from London.
The orchestra will be led by their new musical director, Vasily Petrenko and will feature pianist Olga Kern. Kern jumpstarted her U.S. career in 2001 with her historic Gold Medal win at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas as the first woman to do so in more than 30 years. She was featured in the award-winning documentary about the 2001 Cliburn Competition, Playing on the Edge.
