The Artists Council (AC) is delighted to invite the public to visit the Artists Center at the Galen to view their first juried exhibition of art from public and private high schools throughout the Coachella Valley. 76 artworks including drawing, painting, photography, video, digital images, mixed media and ceramics were selected, reflecting the theme of Fantasy/Reality.
Jurors Katherine Hough, curator, and Emily Culhan, art educator, were impressed by the diversity of the work as well as the thoughtfulness of the students. Hough and Culhan juried the artworks based on the interpretation and presentation of the theme, originality, craftsmanship and a meaningful communication of ideas. Several pieces will be chosen for special recognition based on exceptional talent and work.
The Young Artists Exhibition will be on display April 9 – May 15 with free admission Wednesdays – Sundays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. In addition, the Artists Center at the Galen will host a free Community Sunday in the Garden on April 24 from 1 – 4 p.m. Collaborating with a variety of community art organizations and the City of Palm Desert, Community Sunday will feature family-friendly hands-on art activities, music and performances.
The Young Artists Exhibition is supported by Jim and Carol Egan. Additional youth program support is provided by Darlenna Burleson, Cynthia Buzzard, Joe Gamble, Terry Anderson, the City of Palm Desert, LULU Catering and MJR Custom Framing.\
