An event every day that begins at 8:30 am, repeating until November 1, 2020
Sunnylands’ observation of Coachella Valley Days of Los Muertos takes place October 28 through November 1. Join them and their community partners as they safely celebrate this annual family-friendly tradition in the gardens.
Guests are invited to walk the gardens decorated with giant calaveras (skulls), papel picado (decorative cut paper), nichos (shadow boxes) created by local artists, and ofrendas (altars) designed by local nonprofit organizations. Participants include:
Palm Springs Art Museum
The S.C.R.A.P. Gallery
Animal Samaritans
Raices Cultura
Palm Springs Cemetery District
The gardens are open Wed-Sun, 8:30am to 4pm. On Thursday, October 29, and Friday, October 30, they will stay open until 8 pm for special nighttime viewing of the displays with Day-of-the-Dead-themed music playing in the gardens from 12:30pm to 8:00pm on both days. The altars will be lit at 5:30pm. Flashlights are recommended for evening viewing.
Some small take-home crafts will be available on designated boards found throughout the gardens:
Monarch butterfly cutouts
Paper skull masks
Paper nichos
Mini papel picado banners
Parking and admission to this event are free of charge. Social distancing measures, including the wearing of facemasks, are required while visiting the gardens.
